James Knapp, Artistic and Managing Director
With 30 years of choral conducting experience with colleges, churches and community choruses, James Knapp is now in his fifth season leading the Denver Gay Men's Chorus to greater levels of artistic and musical excellence. James, who is the Artistic Director Emeritus of the Bayou City Performing Arts, guided the Gay Men's Chorus of Houston, the Bayou City Women's Chorus and the Bayou City Chorale for eight years with tremendous success. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Fredonia State University, a diploma from the Mozarteum Conservatory of Music in Salzburg and a Master of Music from the University of Texas at Austin.
His choirs have appeared at regional conventions such as the American Choral Director's Association and the Texas Choral Directors Association. They have also appeared with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in the Palace of St Petersburg Chamber Music Festival in Russia. Additionally, he conducted the featured choir at the International Church Music Festival in Coventry, England with Sir David Willcocks.
Raul Dominguez, Assistant Director
Raul recently received his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Ithaca College (IC) where he studied with Dr. Janet Galván. While there, he worked extensively with all major choral ensembles as well as the Intergenerational Choir (comprised of retirement center residents and IC music students). He presented his research on Mexican choral music at his graduate recital and at the IC Whalen Symposium, where it was recognized with a session award. Prior to IC, Raul was the Choir Director of Clear Lake HS in Houston, TX where his students performed alongside major area ensembles and consistently earned superior ratings at contests. He holds Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance from Oklahoma City University. In November, he will celebrate his third anniversary of marriage to his incredible husband, Kevin Dominguez.
This fall, he will pursue his Doctorate in Musical Arts in Choral Conducting at the University of Colorado - Boulder and his passion for civic music-making as the Assistant Artistic Director of the Denver Gay Men's Chorus and the Director of Off Kilter.
Ricki Moyer, Principal Accompanist
Ricki Moyer attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, then received her Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She went on to receive her Master of Music degree in Organ Performance, with minor emphases in choral conducting and piano pedagogy. She was the Director of Music at Park Hill United Methodist Church in Denver, where she directed two weekly adult choirs as well as the Voices of Park Hill, which sings for special occasions throughout the year. Ricki also serves as the Artistic Director for the Metropolitan Choral Festival.
